An era has come to an end with the passing of the automotive legend, Lee Iacocca. He steered Chrysler out of bankruptcy and gave us an iconic muscle car – the Mustang. We need more stalwarts like him to negotiate the fast pace of change that we are witnessing in this age of electric cars and automated vehicles. The phenomenon of fake parts is common in this region, but have you ever heard of fake cars? Every one of us hopes to own or at least ride in a supercar one day. It is this craze for supercars that inspired a father and son duo in Brazil to set up shop and make fake supercars with shoddy components. It is just as well that they were caught well in time. Of course, their customers had little leeway to complain as they were also guilty - of buying such cars. Let us hope this never happens again.Temperatures across the region are as high as ever. As in previous years, it goes without saying that children and pets merit special care if they are on the road with you. Never, ever, leave them alone in your car. Kids could lock themselves in. Last year alone, Dubai Police rescued over 69 children who were trapped in vehicles. Never forget to check the car, especially the rear seats before you leave. It is always better to err on the side of caution.Tire blowouts and radiator issues are more common during this season. I would advise all our readers to regularly check fluid levels as when temperatures are on the rise, the fluids in your car can get used up more quickly. It is also important to get your battery tested as there is a higher load on the battery from running systems like the air conditioning. Airconditioning systems and the air filters also deserve regular checks. Keeping a close eye on the tire pressure is vital to prevent blowouts and accidents. Damage from the sun to the interiors can be minimized with the use of protective wax and reflectorized sun panels on your front and rear dashes. Always park in the shade and drive safe.
